Perhaps you can find something here: http://www.197typhoon.org.uk/crew.htm

No R.G. Allen described but Sgt R.M. 'Gubby' Allan, who was F/O in 1945.

Leendert

McPHEE (note spelling) was shot down by a FW 190 24.12.44 on Typhoon MN634 and crashed between Enschede (Netherlands) and Gronau (Germany).

ALLEN was 266 Sqn; shot down 25.7.44 near Thury-Harcourt on Typhoon MN624. He evaded capture but was - wearing civilian clothes - arrested by the Gestapo in August 44.

Re: two pilots from 197 Squadron

Thank you for the site and the info

Chris Shores, has it as McFee, but it is the same date (hmmm, the 197 site has his name spelled McFee also)

not sure where I got Allen in 197 though, I do find him 266 now, may of misread what I was reading :)

I do know he had a C.J Evans listed as a pilot in 88, but C.J was a Gunner, E.E. Evans was a pilot with 88

all the names and dates, I am sure it is easy to get them mixed up every once in a while (I tend to get them wrong when I write to ask about them)

Thank you

R.N.G.Allen

Robert Allen was a supernumerary on 197 Sqn before joining 266 Sqn as a flight commander. He had flown with 1 and 128 sqns earlier in the war. In the revised version of Norman Franks' 'Typhoon Attack' (Grub Street, 2003) he gives a personal account (in 'Recollections, page 250) of his last Typhoon flight. He survived a last-minute bale-out and was captured almost immediately; he had lost his flying boots and socks when he was sucked out of the diving aircraft by the slipstream. There is no mention of evading capture and he was soon in Stalag Luft III. He retired as a Group Captain, CBE, DFC.
