Hallo Ellen,

Do you know about Walter Fenske's career in the I./NJG 1 and a bit V./LG 1 ? I am interested in him also because he was commander of the 3./NJG 1 in Venlo and Schleswig.

Perhaps we can exchange info? All the best, Marcel

Dear marcel!

Thank you for your kind reply! Alas I do not yet know about his career in the I./NJG or 5./LG1.
I´ll show you the facts I have from the WAst (Wehrmachtsauskunftstelle Berlin) and from member Gordon Raddock.

15 09 39 2./LG1 Barth-Vorpommern
2./LG 1 was redesignated to 14./LG 1 on 08 10 39
14./LG 1 was redesignated to 2./NJG 3 on 01 10 40
21 07 40 F was transferred to 3./NJG 1
02 41 F became Staffelkapitän of 3./NJG 1
10 41 9./NJG 2
06 43 11./NJG 5
03 44 3./NJG 10 staff
26 03 44 crash at Kröpplingen
28 03 44 F died at Brodenbach

I hope to get some more information and maye some more pictures out of the book "Zerstörergruppe" (v. Eimannsberger) which I hope to get soon. Do you know it?

By the way - i´m Dutch too (living in Austria). My brother is supposed to be Fenskes son.
I would be grateful for any other information.

Thanks, Ellen

Most of this material comes from microfilms of assignment orders. The rest comes from various books.

We hope that this helps.

Hello Ellen,

Walter Fenske joined the Wehrmacht on 13 Apr 1931. He was involved in the Spanish Civil War from 11 Nov 1936 till 23 Aug 1937, though I have no details of his service in Spain.

Best wishes,
Andre

Seems like something's wrong ...

Hey chaps,

I just noticed that the first 3 posts in this thread are all dated April 2008! Is something wrong?

I was a little puzzled when I first saw the post, as I had corresponded with Ellen on the same subject about a year ago, but only realized the date issue after replying...

Comments, anyone?

Andre
