Me109 Recovery in 2000...need info on pilot and werk number.

I have an article from a German April 2000 newspaper, which talks about a recoverey of an Me109G nightfighter from JG104. Photos are also in the article.

The 19 year old pilot was still in the cockpit, his name was Heinrich Schwerte, but no werk number was noted.

Sounds like it was revovered from Lichtenau, and it crashed in September 1944...

Can anyone provide more info?

Thanks!

Mike

Ref: Me 109 Nr. 412533 which was recovered in 2000, would like to know if there is a site I can read about it in English, I have a copy of the recovery from a German newpaper, but not being able to read German I'm at a loss. I would also love to find some pictures of the aircraft before and after along with more info on the pilot Gefreiter Heinze Schwerte.

I was given a date plate from another crashed Me 109 with the date plate numbers Nr. 9-12087-A 3 Werk Nr. 15.9545 which I'm trying to find out the fate of? I don't know how to go abou finding out the history on this aircraft.

Any help would be verymuch appricated..

Hi Bob,

On the face of it the plate you have would appear to be for a component part of an aircraft and wouldn't indicate the Werke nummer of an individual aircraft. If it were a part used by several manufacturers it would make the task even harder than it is anyway.

Having said that I'm sure someone here may be able to find something in an aircraft parts list that may help in some way. If your son can download a photo it may be of help.

Kind regards,

David
