He 111 crash of KG 4

Hi gents,

please find attached a picture from my collection of a crashlanded He 111 of KG 4.

On the back you can see names (and ranks or functions ?)
From top to bottom, I think it says :
1. Zeller
2. Kuhhorn
3. Schl...
4. M...
5. Leutnant (= lieutenant)
6. M...
7. Henzel or Heuzel
8. Schutze (= gunner)
9. Bischof

Can anybody tell me more about the date, place and circumstances of the crash?
Can anybody make out the proper crew names, and what became of them? I think that at least one crewmember died in the crash since you can see a improvised wooden cross in the front of the aircraft.

Thanks in advance,
Rudi.

Re: He 111 crash of KG 4

Bugger,

This is 5J+DN of 5./KG4 down at Dardeweg near Zvenbergsche Hoek Holland on May 10, 1940. According to Peter Cornwell's TBoFrT&N the crew was: "Oberfw H. Ganss killed. Oberlt R. Ganzert, Oberfw E. Tischer, and Gefr H. Dertinger captured unhurt." Obviously the grave is that of Ofw Ganss. There are several photos known of this crash, which remained in situ for quite some time before being salvaged, and was photographed frequently by Dutch civilians.

Do you have more crash photos from the Western Campaign?

Hi Larry,

thanks for your quick reply. It's really appreciated.

I probably do have some pictures of crashed Luftwaffe planes during the Western Campaign. The problem is that most of them don't have dates or places written on the back of them. And even if they do, this data is not always correct.

Are you looking for any units or aerial battles in particular?

Rudi.
