Identity of Aircraft Markings

Perhaps someone can help, I have a statement from a seaman that was on a ship sunk by a FW200 (ISOLDA on 19/12/1940). He says that in addition to the black cross marking he also saw a yellow marking with a red line through it beside the black cross. He was the only crew member to see this particular marking, all the other crew either saw nothing or just the black cross.
It may be nothing but does anyone have any idea what it is and does it go some way to identifying the aircraft.

Regards,

Mark

Re: Identity of Aircraft Markings

Sound like possibly the individual aircraft letter 'F1+IK', which in this instance would be ithe 'I' in the staffel color (red - 2nd, 5th, or 8th sta.) outlined in white. The Stafeel letters 'K' for 2.Sta, 'N' for 5th (unlikely) or 'S' for 8th Sta.
