Sidearm For Pilots?

What was the standared sidearm for Luftwaffe Pilots? Was it the 4" Lugar, P38, or Walter PP?

Re: Sidearm For Pilots?

All kind of pistols - Fromm, 08, P38, Radom, PPK, PP, FN Browning etc. They used a lot of 'Beutepistolen'

I have read in the past that the Mauser Hsc was popular with the Luftwaffe, but didn't indicate pilots necessarily.

Hi,

Most (generally bomber) crew members I've dealt with previously seem to have preferred the Mauser HSC or similar compact auto although one chap preferred a large calibre Browning!

Hi MauserMan1937 !

From two recoveries of German JG-pilots, downed in December 1944, I know that one carried a 9mm FN Browning and the other one carried a
9 mm Luger 08 as sidearm.

The sidearm-market in German occupied Europe was well equipped with pistols, as Delmenhorst mentioned.

Additionally, one came with his private pistol, purchased by his daddy or grandfather.

Since the equipment with sidearms to JG-Pilots was sure not priority No. 1 in the daily work of the Luftwaffe, I think, that you will never get a satisfiying answer to your questiion.

When I'm flyxng and I want a sidearm, I get one. But then I have to receive, what is on stock. This is mostly a Luger 08 or a "Beutepistole".

Best regards,

Horst Weber

I have a Luftwaffe issue CZ 27. I understand the CZ 27 was a popular pistol with pilots.
