Hptm Dietrich Kornblum 9/NJG 2

This officer transferred with two others from II/KG 53 to convert to night fighters. He is credited with one kill (10-11 Nov 44) before he was apparently killed attacking "a British mine-layer" with 9/NJG 2 27-28 Nov 44. Can anyone add anything to his demise?

Hello!
You might know this already, but Kornblum was flying a Ju 88 C-6, Wnr. 620510 and the code was 4R + AT.
The entire crew was killed
Fw. Taut
Ogr. Wagner
Ogr. Stengel
I have my info's from Obermeiers book on KC winners from the Jagdfliegern
and also from Balss book on NJG losses

Best wishes
Christian

PS I just purchased an read your book "Bloody Biscay" Great work, thank You

Christian: Thanks for this (I had it already) and thanks for your kind comments on my book.
What I am seeking is how and why he crashed as there appears to be no RAF link

Hi Chris,

Sorry for the late reply but we have been on holiday.....

After looking at the Wehrpaß of Herr Kornblum unfortunately there is nothing further to add.

The entry was made 2.1.1945 from news in a letter dated 28.12.1944 that he was missing in action on 27.11.1944 over the home war zone whilst serving with III/N.J.G. 2.

Regards,
Ian
