Re: Gerhard Ille
I was in touch with him a number of years ago; what and why do you want to know more about him?

Re: Gerhard Ille
:) Chris, Thanks for your response. As I said in my profile one of my hobbies is collecting autographs of aces. Last weekend I aquired a 3x5 of Herr Ille in his ME109, signed. The man who gave it to me and I could not find any information on him though we did not look too far. I am in the middle of moving so all of my books are packed up,so, I am just anxious to find out what I can about a new signature in my collection, rank ,awards, victories, where service was etc. I assure you my intentions are these, I am just a big fan of WW2 fighter aviation. Especially the Luftwaffe. Even if Gerhard is not an ace (I cannot find him on any weblist)he has an honorable place in my collection. I look forward to your response, Thanks!

Re: Gerhard Ille
His only claim to fame was that he was shot down and taken POW SW of Bayeux 24 Jul 44

Re: Gerhard Ille
Chris, Ok Thanks but do we know anything else such as who may have brought him down or possibly what Bomber group he was attacking? Corny as it may sound I feel a kinship to all the men in my collection and it drives me to learn all I can about their history. Some guys collect baseball cards and learn the players stats, for me its aces and such. Its not any fame or anything just their story. Anyway I most appreciate your help, take care.

Re: Gerhard Ille
I know this is a delayed response!
I came across the site purely by accident, but I know/knew Gerhard quite well. I served with him in the headquarters of the NATO 2nd TAF in Germany in the 70's and stayed in contact afterwards. We met a couple of times over the years and always exchanged Christmas cards. However, he did not reply to my 2006 card and I fear he may have died. I know he had many friends in the US because I think he was a POW there. Regards, Roy |
Re: Gerhard Ille
Gerhard Ille (JG 106, JG 2) died 3. March 2007.
In the Loss List of a Member of the JG 2, i found him as Uffz, 5./JG 2, POW 24.07.1944 after Air Combat/Caen. Greetings Peglar |
