Two P-47 losses in march 1945
 

Gentlemen,
is there anything known about the losses of

2/Lt Percy Forman, 324.FG, 315.FS on 11.03.1945

and

1/Lt Bernard W. Wallace, 27.FG, 524.FS on 18.03.1945?

Hello Heuser.

2nd Lt. Percy Forman. KIA on 11th March '45 during a dive bombing mission against a railway bridge at Blickweiler, Germany. He crashed into the side of a hill after failing to pull out of a dive. Forman was buried near to the crash site. I don't have details of his aircraft i'm afraid.

1st Lt. Bernard Wallace. KIA on 18th March '45 whilst leading his flight. He was attacking locomotives in a marshalling yard near Homburg, Germany when his aircraft was hit by flak. He was buried at the village cemetary of Bruchhof in a common grave with other allied dead. Again I don't have aircraft details.

thank you very much for your reply! My sources are limited, but AFAIK there are no MACR regarding both losses...(?)

Hello Heuser, glad to help.

The info above came from a number of documents I found on Footnote.com. They include correspondence from the USAAF to the pilots next of kin. However, they are listed under MACRs but do not seem to form part of individual MACRs! So perhaps no reports were issued at the time? I assume that the aircraft involved were P-47s?

Lt Forman:
The MACR of Forman is 15889, his plane was the 44-33420.
I found a piece of his plane with the insignia P-47D-30-RA, this is the exact plane type. He was shot down by the flako of "Götz von Berlichingen".
You can read this on our website.
Today he is buried at St.Avold, France.

Lt Wallace:
MACR is 15870, the story you can find again at the website.
Serial: O-705646, today he is buried at Fairmount/Illinois - USA.

cheesey- I would be interested in the pages you found, because I have no documents on this planes.
Could you also help me with other MACRS? That would be great!

Martin-is there any serial number mentioned in MACR 15870?

I'm sorry, I do not have the MACRs of this planes,
in my database there is no serial number notated.

Heuser,

P-47D of Lt Bernard W. Wallace was 44-20426. Given as lost by Flak, 27th FG.
A German website says "5 mi. S. of Baumholder" which would put it in your area.

MACR most likely 15157 (instead). This report carries name of Lt Bernard Wallace most if you look on footnote.com.
