14.5.1940 bomb raids between Brussels-Louvain, Belgium
Hello,
Somewhere between 0800 hrs and 1200 hrs in the morning of May 14th 1940 the main roads between Brussels and Louvain (Leuven) were bombed by German aircraft (sometimes a nearby village center was bombed). I’m very interested to learn which Kampfgeschwader(n), Lehrgeschwader(n) or Sturzkampfgeschwader(n) participated in these attacks on and along these roads. The two main roads between Brussels and Louvain are : N2 Brussels -Louvain (Brussel-Leuven) N3 Tervueren -Louvain (Tervuren-Leuven) Any information or clue would be much appreciated Thanks Dirk |

Helo Dirk ,
I "presume " it must have been He-111 from KG27 and Ju-78 from LG 1. Alain |

I have an attack around 09.00 a.m. on the Leuven-Gembloux area of 15 Hs123 of II(S)/LG2 and Heinkels of I./ and III./KG27, escorted by Bf109's of II./JG2 and I./JG27. Regards, Pieter |
Re: 14.5.1940 bomb raids between Brussels-Louvain, Belgium
Dear Alain, Pieter,
I thank you both for the information. I assume the information came from 'Twelve Days in May' by Brian Cull. Do the war diaries or any other documents for that period pertaining to I and III/KG27, II(S)/LG2 and II/JG2 still exist. I would like to learn their precise orders for that paricular morning. Any idea whether other Luftwaffe units bombed the Louvain area that day? Regards, Dirk |
