29.07.40 Me 109E Hptm Aichele

Hi,

Can anyone please supply me with further information regarding the death of Hptm Erwin Aichele of Stab I./JG51 who lost his life after crashing his Me 109E-4 on return from England on the 29.07.40 near Calais. Any help greatly appreciated.

GQm records and Prien say Killed due to Bruchlandung after Luftkampf with enemy fighters.

Melvin,

Aders & Held´s "Jagdgeschwader 51 Moelders" mentions he tried to c/l his damaged machine on coast near Wissant. Because of extracted undercarriage the Messerchmitt turned over and burned.
