Loss of MS 406 serial nr 918

Hello,

I have a picture of a belly-landed MS 406 and I would like to know if anybody can give me information on this aircraft: MS 406 nr 918. Unit, date/place of loss, name of the pilot, etc.???
Thank you,

Alexander

Hi,

MS-406 No.918 GCIII/2 black "2" Pilot Lt.Lechat damaged by FLAK on the 13.05.40. On the 17.05.40 it was abandoned in Cambrai. It should be also damaged during the bombing on the 10.05.40.
Are sure that it really is 918?

Regards

Robert

Hello,

Thanks for the information about this aircraft. Yes, I'm sure. I've been helped by a friend and also used a big loupe. It looked like the aircraft had made a belly landing but you can also see a part of a wing of another aircraft behind the MS 406 nr 918 on my picture. May be the MS 406 nr 918 had a collapsed landing gear......
Regards,

Alexander

Alexander,

Are you able to find a number 2 on the fin ?

I can confirm with logbook, ORB and JMO that two number 2 (5eme and 6eme escadrille) were lost in Cambrai (n°918 and 927)

Hi Alexander,

and could it be e.g. 916 which c/l due to engine fire on the 05.06.40?
or 919 damaged by Bf109E from 1/JG3 on the 14.05.40 (however reported damaged and should normally land and was later abandoned on the 17.05.40 in Cambrai).

Hello,

Thanks for the information.
Yes, you can see a number 2 (clearly) on the fin and 11 German soldiers are posing around/on on the MS 406.

Hi,

I saw lot of photos of n°918 (GC III/2, 5ème escadrille) taken by the Germans at Cambrai. This one is on his wheels, and i can confirm here that the propeller was not damaged in a belly landing. We can often see n°605 "10" and n°926 "1" near it.
The other one with the code 2 in Cambrai, n°927 (6ème escadrille), was destroyed by fire, i can only see the fin with this code and the serial number of the aircraft.

Do you recognize your photo ?

Re: Loss of MS 406 serial nr 918

Hello,

No, I don't recognize an aircraft which was destroyed by fire. I confirm number 2 on the fin and nr 918. I can't see the whole propellor but the part which I can see isn't damaged. The Germans perhaps moved the aircraft because this one isn't really standing on his wheels and the fuselage is touching the ground.
Regards,

Alexander
