According to Joe Baughers website at http://home.att.net/~jbaugher/1942_3a.html 42-70251 was not a P-47.
Typo?

Good afternoon Alain !

Unfortunately, no P-47 with the s/n 42-70251 is listed in the inventory of the USAAF. We have a P-47 of 366th FG, which wrote off a P-47 on 31st August 1944 with the AAF-s/n 42-76251.

The status of this a/c is MIA on microfilm No. A5686, page 396 of AFHRA.

Unfortunately, no MARCA of the incident exists and the event obviously happened in Belgium on liberated territory. You may probably gain more information by sources, related to the 366th Fighter Group.

All the best !

Alain !

Forgive me, please, there is a MACR for 366th FG loss of a P-47 AAF-s/n 42-76251, dated 31 August 1944. The number is MACR 8491 and it does list the loss in France. The location "FRANCE" has been double-underlined in the original MACR-list, which may indicate, that there were doubts, in which area the incident really took place.

Best wishes !

Hello Horst ,

You must be right , i found out that the aircraft came down at Saint-Rémy-en-L'Eau in France. The pilot must have been Thomas Hull A JR ( KIA )

Greetings Alain

I have the book on the 366 FG .
Lt. Hull was lost on this date ,hit a telephone pole in the left wing causeing him to crash.
No serial number of the P-47 or were the crash was in the book.
