463 Squadron, Lancaster LM551 shot down July 18/19 1944 Can any one identify the night fighter pilot who shot down this bomber which was one of 24 lost on a mission to revigny. It came down in the Canal du Marne a la Saone between Locks 54 and 55. A distant relative of my wife was the only RAF man in a RAAF crew. It is possible that Lent was the victor. If anyone can also provide me details of this engagement I would be grateful Tango Echo Dog |

Re: 463 Squadron, Lancaster LM551 shot down July 18/19 1944 Don't think it's Lent - his claim was up near Reims, the canal you mention seems to run down to the east of Kijo. Over at Tony Woods' site there are some good Luftwaffe claims files, and a Luftwaffe map, though the new version doesn't seem to go as far south as Dijon. Closest to your aircraft seem to be: 19.07.44 Ofw. Herbert Altner 8./NJG 5 4-mot. Flzg. £ 04 Ost N/GK at 2.400 m. [W. Dijon] 01.34 Film C. 2027/II Anerk: Nr.44 19.07.44 Uffz.
