Ernst Schafer I/JG300 2./JG302 - Looking for infos

Hi,

I'm looking for infos on Ernst Schafer - he was a pilot in I/JG300 and 2./JG302.

While I've his JG300 period pretty well described in JY LORANT and R. GOYAT excellent book on JG300, I miss infos on his JG302 period (did he fly any daylight operations ? did he achieve any kills ? what was his rank at the time of his death ? what about his final mission on 29/07 44 where he was killed ? ...).

Could anyone help ?

Best regard

Laurent

In Willi Reschke's book Ernst Schafer is listed as KIA 28 July 1944 due to loss in air combat over Plauen.

In fact, when you look at the claim list at the end of JG300 book from Lorant & Goyat, it appears that E. Schaffer claimed much more victories (total = 12) when he was in the nightfighter period of JG300. Of course, most of them are not officialy awarded but who knows ?

04/07/43 Alt unknown Köln NJVK Viermot
31/07/43 4600m Remscheid 2./Herrmann Halifax

24/02/44 Lancaster 2./JG300

I also know he made an emergency landing on the 26/6/44

Schäfer was born 15 Dec. 1921 at Zergen-Ortke (according to the Volksbund gravesite web page.) Like most of the night claims of the "Wild Boars," many of Schäfer's claims with JG 300 appear not to have been officially confirmed.
