Organization of the air regiments of VVS

Hi!

How the Russian air regiments were organized?
In squadrons?

How to transliterate "squadron" in Russian?

Cheers,

Franklin

Hi Franklin,

Aviation Regiments underwent various changes of establishment during the war.

Early in the war Rgts only had 2 Eskadrilya of 9 aircraft (a/c)

Later in the war a new TO&E was adopted. I believe "standard" organisation mid war was 32 aircraft, organised into 3 Eskadrilya of 10 a/c each (3x10) and a HQ flight of 2 a/c (it is possible that the Eskadrilya still had 9 a/c and the HQ flight 5 a/c, I've been unable to discover which is correct).

Some of our Russian experts will probably be able to tell you more.
Online translation of Squadron gives Эскадрон
