For this date we hv 2 x100 % loss without names for III.JG26 , follow. brit doc one is Ebeling in the morning, who is the other ??
Further the Wn are 6298+3712 , in Prien we don't trace the 6298...

????

Hello Remi,

Losses to III./JG26 on August 31, 1940, were as follows. Werk Nummer 6298 was a II./JG26 machine lost on the previous day.

7./JG26 Messerschmitt Bf 109E-1 (6309). Intercepted during escort sortie to Hornchurch and shot down in combat with fighters. Believed that claimed by Pilot Officer B. E. Christmas of No. 1 (RCAF) Squadron. Broke up over Knatts Valley, Stansted, 5.40 p.m. Uffz Horst Liebeck baled out and captured unhurt. Aircraft a write-off.
Large portion of parachute with Luftwaffe acceptance stamp in Steve Vizard Collection attributed to this aircraft.

7./JG26 Messerschmitt Bf 109E-1 (3464). Shot down in combat with fighters during escort sortie to Hornchurch. Possibly that attacked by Flying Officer B. van Mentz of No. 222 Squadron. Crashed at Mill House Farm, Allington 6.30 p.m. (Ff) Fw Martin Klar captured wounded. Aircraft a write-off.

9./JG26 Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4 (3712). Severely damaged in combat over southern England and crashed in the Channel during return flight. (Ff) Oberlt Heinz Ebeling (Staffelkapitän) baled out unhurt and rescued by Seenotkommando. Aircraft Yellow 3 + I lost.

9./JG26 Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4 (1184). Shot down by Pilot Officer C. F. Gray of No. 54 Squadron during escort sortie to Hornchurch. Forced-landed on Jubilee Hall Farm, Ulcombe 6.45 p.m. (Ff) Oberlt Willy Fronhöfer captured unhurt. Aircraft Yellow 10 + I a write-off.

Only possibly KLAR but, to the best of my knowledge, none of them were shot down by Polish pilots.

Well, there is little to choose from. Von Perthes was not downed by Poles, so it leaves JG 3 and JG 26.

Some articles suggest 31. in the morning rescued by Do18, new on the deck the afternoon to shot-down 2 Hurricanes
