Flakwerfer (sp?) 44

Hello, a new poster here!

Saw a reference in a magazine regarding the execution of a commander of a FlaK unit at Remagen for allowing a secret weapon, a "Flakwerfer 44", I believe, to fall into Allied hands. Any idea what kind of an item this would have been?

Your spelling is correct. This unit was also known as Flakabwehrwerfer Fohn (umlaut over the o). There is a photo at the bottom of this page:
