Fw200 bomber missions in Russia
In Morzik's AFHRA-study on the Transporters, an interesting episode can be found:
For the Stalingrad air-bridge, a KGr.z.B.V. was created with Fw200 (from 2 Staffeln of KG40 IIRC). From 13.2.-28.2.43, that Gruppe was used for transports to and from the Kuban-Brückenkopf. Mostly, planes flew in formations of three. But during most nights, single planes flew nuisance raids to Baku or Grozny, targets was the oil-industry there. |
Re: Fw200 bomber missions in Russia
Where did you get this info about flying in threes, at night, etc.? We have found no such info and we thought we had combed through everything. All we have is:
"flew some night attack missions (12 February 1943)" We have a mini-history for this and other units, which will eventually appear in a future volume uniform with our Bomber units and Ground Attack Units books. LdZ DGS |

For those that do not have access to Morzik's work please see the KGrzbV 200 page on the LuftwaffeData Wiki.
Alternatively download study No 167 from the AFHRA page |
Re: Fw200 bomber missions in Russia
As mentioned above, all this info is from Morziks AFRHA study.
Example from Page 205: "In addition to the Kuban supply operation, the group was to fly bombardment missions against rail targets in the Stalingrad area and two large - scale missions over the oil fields at Tiflis and Baku." |
