Fw190V13

Hello all,

Considering making an RC model of the 190V13, but one query.

Does anybody know from where did the DB engine of the Fw190V13 receive it’s aspirating air?

The books and drawings I have seen state that the intake under the cowl is the oil cooler only, and the annular cowling covered only the coolant radiator.

Photos generally only show the starboard side, however 1 photo (taken from the front Starboard) is just off-centre enough not to show any intake on the Port side if one were there.

The intake had to be somewhere – where was it?

Side photos apparently of the V15 and V16 show the intake in the expected position on the Port side of the fuselage.

Many TIA

Re: Fw190V13

Hi, Maurice,

according to

HERMANN, D. (2002): Vom ersten Höhenjäger zur Fw 190 H. VDM.Zweibrücken.

the supercharger intake on the Fw 190 V 13 was positioned inside the oil cooler cowling below the motor between two oil coolers to achieve a cleaner airframe. However the high altitude performance of the DB 603 suffered from this arrangement and the V 15 and V 16 therefore reverted to a conventional design.

Note that on the V 13 the tube thats bends up from the intake to the supercharger produced an oval bulge in the cowling approximately at the position of the intake on the V 15 and V 16.

Hi Stefan,
Thanks very much (I assume this is the 152 book). However, I can't see this in my copy - is it in the original version or the English language version?

Thanks

Book

Hi, again!

No, this is another book by the same author. It concentrates on the developement of the Fw 190 B, C and Höhenjäger 2 (with turbo supercharger).

The original title of the 152 book is " Focke-Wulf Ta 152. Der Weg zum Höhenjäger."

Best regards

Stefan

Hello Stefan,
Realised that when I got home & checked the title & date of the 152 book. I will now get a copy of the one you refer to (of which I was unaware). Many thanks again Stefan.
Cheers

Ah.. I see.
But no, my attachement is too large and I dont want to use bigger compression because more details would be lost.
Let's do it this way:

I hope this works now.
