Ju 87 badge ID needed
Hi!
Can someone identify the insignia on this Ju 87 shot down in France in May 1940? The plane is supposed to be a C-0 and consequently would belong to 4.(St.)/Tr.Gr. 186 but the insignia looks a bit different from the "helmet on an anchor". Thanks. |
Re: Ju 87 badge ID needed
6./St.G 2

Thanks Chris.

Re: Ju 87 badge ID needed
Hi,
I think this is I/StG76. Regards Robert |
Re: Ju 87 badge ID needed
Robert,
Don't think so. The tail of the griffin (?) had more feathers. Chris |
Re: Ju 87 badge ID needed
Hi,
but I think the emblem connected with 6/StG2 was bigger? Robert |
Re: Ju 87 badge ID needed
Indeed and it looks kind of strange, unless the pinguin is walking towards the nose.
Can't make my mind up. Chris |
Re: Ju 87 badge ID needed
Hi,
I`m not writing about pinguin - there was a personal? emblem connected with II/StG2 showing a lion but it was just bigger than emblem on your photo. I think your photo shows belly-landed Stuka? Regards Robert |
Re: Ju 87 badge ID needed
IMO it is I./StG 76 simply because of the shield. IIRC 6./StG 2 featured just a white Griffon without a background while I./StG 76's Griffon was the heraldic animal of the Steiermark region (white griffon on green shield).

Re: Ju 87 badge ID needed
The heraldic animal of Styria (Steiermark) is a "fire-spitting silver panther with red horns and claws" (an animal you don't see very often - not even in the zoo ...:D).
