„Mission 15“ on 21 October 1942
 

8th Air Force dispatched 66 B-17s and 24 B-24s to hit the U-boat pens at Lorient, France that day. Formation were attacked by JG 2 and 3 B-17s were s/d.
Can someone help me with the s/n and the BG/BS ? Many thanks in advance.

I have the following losses in this battle:

3 Allied bombers:
B-17 41-24344 414th BS, 97th BS downed by german fighters near Morlaix/France,Capt. John M. Bennett, 8 KIA 2 POW MACR 15352
B-17 41-24443 97th BG
B-17 41-24441 342nd BS, 97th BG

1 German fighter:
Oblt. Lütter , Otto 8. / JG 2 FW 190 A-2 WNr. 0333 100% Failed to return from sortie. Crashed after combat with enemy aircraft. Pilot killed.

JG 2 lost another aircraft but that was in a Jabo raid against England in the evening.
