2 "strange" albums for sale

Very interesting. I'm not into albums, but I did keep one while I was in the USAF (ADC) 1958-1962. All the photos on each page of my album have just a little bit of fade, the color ones a bit more, but equal. I would surmise that an album's photos would not have one photo faded, while the one next to it looked like it was taken yesterday. There is always the possibility that both albums were put together more recently.

WARNING for FAKE
i bought a few years ago some "old looking" pictures from luftwaffe planes from a seller in germany (his wife had a ebay account)
once i received them they looked old but after bringing them to a local photographer he found out that they used real war time paper but newly printed. also the borders of the pictures were cutted like during the war (those cutters you can buy in stamp sellers)
the proceedure is used to make them looking yellowish .. has been stored for ages.... but its all fake.
so readers be aware of all those crooks.

it can be that albums were empty and the seller fils them up with copies and "some " originals to come over as they are all originals
as i am buying luftwaffe stuff they even assemble stuff used all fakes and put a small item original to make it looking all original.
they even do the same with sticks from planes,
kind regards
phil

But is it possible to use so old paper? I had enough problems with much 'newer' one.

Re: 2 "strange" albums for sale

I've seen original WWII german blank photopaper being sold on e-bay, even this year. I'm not a photographer/developer but I can imagine somebody who is can make new prints now and make them look old.

But the photos might be authentic. I've got several pictures in my collection which on the back have a "shopping list" of names of "Kameraden" who wanted a copy of that picture in that day and age. So there might be very well be a lot of original WWII prints around of the same picture.

But in this case, it kind of struck me that 2 albums from the same seller had the same "interesting" pictures in it. Personally I think that the albums are genuine, but that they had a couple of blanc spots in it (pictures removed previously to be sold seperatly???) and were "filled up" with the pictures I posted above.

Kind regards,
Rudi.

I mean that so old paper would be just useless, and it will be impossible to make prints of it.

Whilst I cannot really comment or offer an opinion on these albums it is worth noting that there is currently an ongoing Police investigation into the forgery and sale of WW2 aviation related items (mostly documents and medal groups) being offered by a specific UK based dealer, much of it via e-bay. A professional forgery set-up was involved, using old paper, typewriters, manufactured rubber stamps, even rusty pins and staples etc. Pages from Log Books and Combat Reports have been involved - sometimes mixed up with original items like photos. It is a very complex operation, and some of the fakes have been very hard to spot. Evidently, a huge and very very professional organisation. A number of collectors have been "stung" with big sums of money involved. I am sure we will be reading all about in due course when it hits the press and I rather suspect custodial sentences will follow for the father and son team.

Hi all,

As an ex-photographer I can tell it's always possible to use old photopapers...

Cheers,
