Ju W 34 WerkNr 2772
Here are some pictures of a Ju W 34 with WNr 2772 from my collection. The unit code seems to be B3+MD which would mean that this aircraft belonged to 4./KG 54. I couldn't find any mention about this nose stand in the loss list in Siegfried Radtke's book.
Does anybody know: - were and when this mishap happened? - knows what the triangeler insigna with LD on the nose stands for? - knows what the 64/II under this insigna means? Thanks in advance, Rudi. |
Re: Ju W 34 WerkNr 2772
Hi Rudi...
The emblem belonged to a Luftdienst-Kdo unit... I'm not 100% sure on the 64/II as it could mean that this Ju W.34 served with Luftdienst-Kdo 64. With regards the fuselage code, could it actually be BB+MD? Cheers Peter D Evans LEMB Administrator |
Re: Ju W 34 WerkNr 2772
Hello bugger;
My opinion is you are looking at Stammkennseichen BB+MD and this nothing to do with KG 54. In my file this W.Nr. is listed as W 34 he and shot down by enemy fighter in 1941 (possibly in or around Denmark) and belongning to IV/Fl.ziel.G 1 Aalborg/West - Insignia is likely of ŽLuftDienest KdoŽ (Air Courier unit) 64/II but I am not expert on shields - Great photo of very good quality. Any possiblity of close up of the W.Nr. too? cheers ed |
Re: Ju W 34 WerkNr 2772
Thanks for your input Peter and Ed.
Here's a scan of the WNr Ed. Kind regards, Rudi. |
Re: Ju W 34 WerkNr 2772
Thanks for scan Rudi.
Note that placing of Hakenkrautz is like prewar, Skz. codes like this (generally) were applied first from October 1939 onwards, so this could have taken place in winter 1939/1940 or 1940/1941 etc. Anyway the damage done is much less than that listed in Luftwaffe losses lists of minimum of about 10% (such nose-upping can have resulted in only a bent prop and needing - perhaps - overhaul of engine, so 2% or less is my guess). cheers ed |
Re: Ju W 34 WerkNr 2772
Thanks for WNr confirmation Rudi and thanks for the additional details Ed. This will make a welcome addition to our open source/open to all LEMB Sktz Database Project... :)

Re: Ju W 34 WerkNr 2772
Hi Rudi (and Tony);
Yes, same crew as I have - just an old handritten note and date there says 1941 - Seems this date should be 17-5-1944 ! Likely RAF Mustang of 65 Sq were involved than ... cheers' ed |
