Fw 190 Main Plates
As noted in the thread on Bf 109 W.Nr. 4034 recovered in India, the plane was built by Focke-Wulf. Unfortunately, its main data plate is missing.
This evening I viewed a main plate from another 4000 series 109 E built by Fw (Mediterranean theater loss); however, its owner (a quiet collector) is reluctant to allow it to be shown. In its place, I picture a Fw 190 plate ('1595') from my collection, but, as it turned out, identical in style to the 109 plate I saw. Also from my collection, I picture a variant style Fw 190 ('617') main plate used for airframes built under license ('nachbau'). Both main plates are the six-sided, double hole style unique to Fw. Note, however, that the license built variant is larger to allow the alternate builder entry. These styles were also used on other Fw aircraft such as the 189 and 58, among others. |
