Three Mistel pictures
Hi there, the chaingang,
I just chanced on those three Mistel shots thaken by a GI in 1945: http://www.flickr.com/photos/2954957...7606691142579/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/2954957...7606691142579/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/2954957...7606691142579/ Does the second picture show an Ju 88 H? Thanks to the original poster at Flickr Marc |
Re: Three Mistel pictures
Yes, the 2nd photo shows a Ju 88H.
What really interests me is Photo 1 because I recall being told that radial-engined Ju88s got 190s, and inline-engined Ju88s bot 109s. This is obviously not so, unless this was a post-war mock-up. |

Thanks for the Ju 88 H confirmation, George. As for the first pic, the fact you have another Fw 190 A-9 (?) in the background does rather point to an after action shot, but withouth fiddling around with the planes yet... My two penny worth... Cheers Marc |
Re: Three Mistel pictures
Hi folks!
1st and 2nd picture show a Mistel S3C with Fw 190 A-8, W.Nr. 961243 and Ju 88 G-10, W.Nr. 460066. Found April 1945 in Bernburg! There are many pictures of this Mistel in the Mistel book published by Robert Forsyth! Cheers, Simon |
Re: Three Mistel pictures
Hi...
Sorry to throw a spanner in the works, but I think this is a G-10, not an 'H'. According to the Squadron/Signal publications on the Ju88, Vols 1 and 2, the H-1 was a development of the D-1 reconnaissance version, with beetle-eye glazed nose and early, rounded rudder. The G-10 was a stretch-limo version of the G-6 nightfighter, with solid nosecap and squared-off fin/straight rudder. So, this second photo would most likely have been an intended Mistel 3C (or S3C trainer) and not an 'H'. Ah, I see Simon has beaten me to it with his answer... Regards... |
Re: Three Mistel pictures
No problem. I bow to your superior knowledge.
Still great photos, Marc. Thanks for letting us see them, George |
Re: Three Mistel pictures
Obdl, Simon,
Thanks for correcting me, I love to learn! George, don't worry, I will keep on scouring the net to find some new shots, even of known machines... Thanks for your support! Cheers Marc |
