Johann (Hans) Kogler - Jg6 Oberstleutnant - Assistance needed

Hello Everyone,

This is my first post here, I was told this forum would be my best bet to find out any more information about Hans Kogler. I would be interested in any more information about him. Especially photos. If anyone could help me out that would be greatly appreciated.

Here is what Larry from the WAF was able to find for me:

Kogler was a prize catch for the Allies because he was a Geschwader-Kommodore. There are a number of ADI(K) interrogation reports on him as well as Air Ministry special security (i.e., hidden microphone) reports. You can also find a well-researched account of his activities on that fateful day he was captured - New Year's Day 1945 in this recent book:

Manrho, John and Ron Pütz. Bodenplatte: The Luftwaffe’s Last Hope – The Attack on Allied Airfields New Year’s Day 1945. Crowborough (East Sussex): Hikoki Publications Ltd., 2004. ISBN: 1 902109 40 6. Hb. Dj. Oversize. 304p. Profusely illustrated. Appendices. Glossary. Index.

This was also found on Wikipedia, about his fighterwing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jagdgeschwader_6

And finally here is his visor cap that was given to me by the nephew of Hans Kogler, (Alex).

I was in touch with Kogler before his untimely death many yars ago and have copies of a number of his photos including standing on a B17, just after he was rescued from the Channel in Aug 40, one of him in front of his Austrian training aircraft etc. Send me a PM

Oberstleutnant Johann Kogler

Hello Rylan

I have that he was flying Fw 190 A-9 "Black <-"
(W.Nr. 980 543) when shot down on 1 January 1945 for whatever it is worth.

Horrido!

Leo

The 1981 book 'Target Berlin' by Jeffrey Ethell and Alfred Price ( attack on Berlin 6-3-1944) has a photo of Kogler and several mentions of him, including him being shot down that day,

Old thread I know but being a collector of German headgear just wanted to say that this white top Officers cap is beautiful and a one look obvious original just from this single photo. Congrats on a wonderful find!
