Danish Military Aviation 1940
 

Hi,

I have few questions concerning Danish Military Aviation in April 1940:
1) I`m looking for crew and its fate of sole downed Danish plane Fokker C.V R-49 from the 5.Eskadrilla
2) I`m looking for bases of Marinens Flyveskole as well as 1. and 2.Luftflotille
3) I`m looking also for bases of Flyveskolen (army air schools).

I havn't got the information regarding 2 and 3 at hand, but as I understand it, you are interested in the location of these bases? I can look it up for you, when at home.

This is not exactly my area of expertise, but as far as I can gather.

Marinens Flyveskole - Luftmarinestation Avnø
1. Luftflotille - Luftmarinestation København (Copenhagen)
1. Luftflotille - Luftmarinestation Avnø

The two sections of the army air service - Jydske Flyverafdeling and Sjællandske Flyverafdeling - as well as the Flying School and the Army Air Service's Technical Service were all based at Værløse on the 9 April 1940.

As mentioned not my area of expertise, but information from Paul E. Ancker, De danske militære flyvestyrkes udvikling 1910-1940, Vo. 1, 1997 (the Danish military air forces development).

Not sure if you don't have the details on hand or if you feel it is sensitive, but R-49 was claimed by Hptm Wolfgang Falck. Time 06.38H (German time). In his translated (to English) autobiography it is listed as a Fokker D.XXI in the score list, but in the text he clearly states he saw the Fokker D.XXI's on the ground, but the aeroplane that took off was a reconnaisance aeroplane! He also says that THIS was the aeroplane he shot down over Vaerlöse.

The Danish Resistance Movement was an underground insurgency movement to resist the German occupation of Denmark during World War II. Due to the unusually lenient terms given to Denmark by the Nazi occupation authority, the movement was slower to develop effective tactics on a wide scale than in some other countries. However, by 1943, many Danes were involved in underground activities ranging from producing illegal publications to spying and violent sabotage, ultimately, the Danish resistance sabotaged its nation's Nazi occupiers on a larger scale than did any other resistance movement.
