Belgium: rail targets on the 10 of August 1944

Hello,

Can anybody help me to find out which unit(s) were assigned to attack rail targets, especially in the region of Tirlemont (Belgium), on the 10 of August 1944? I recently discovered a document in our city archives about the attack of a train who was enterring the railway station of Neerwinden. According to that document the train was attacked by several aircraft at 11.30 Hrs on the 10 of August 1944. Train was on his way from Tirlemont to Liège.
Thanks,

Alexander

Good evening alexander !

The 8th AF fighter-bombers conducted during this day a huge attack to rail targets in central and eastern France.

The fighter-bombers of the 9th Af attacked CAS-targets in the Loire-Paris area and namely the 405th FG attacked rail targets, but in the area of Troyes--Prienon-Moulins-Montargis. There is no report of this unit, that they came close to Litremont or Liège.

On my opinion, your best candidates for this attack are fighters of the 8th AF, this day acting as fighter-bombers despatched to attack rail-targets or the fighter-bombers of the 2nd TAF.

All the best !

borsto

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. I'll search in the direction that you propose.
I'm very curious, of course, about the results!!!
Greetings from Belgium,

Alexander
