PRU loss , May 1943 ?

Hello gentlemen ,

I'm just trying again about this : a german report states that an allied fighter ( described as a Spitfire ) made a crash-landing near Le Havre on 5 May 1943 at 20.00 . There is no such entry in the Fighter Command Losses . Could it be a ADBG Mustang or a PRU Spit ? Is there a complete list of PRU losses available ? Any help is most welcome and far appreciated !

Could also someone tell me what happened to World War 2 Ex RAF web-site ? Seems closed , unfortunately.

Thank you ,
Laurent

Hi Laurent,

I can't find any PR Wg (540 Sqn, 541 Sqn, 542 Sqn, 543 Sqn, 544 Sqn) Spitfire (or Mosquito) operational loss for 05May43.

There isn't a complete list of PRU (later 106 (PR) Wg) losses available on the net (to my knowledge), though there are complete lists of Spitfire and Mosquito fates but you would have to sort through the data yourself to find PR losses. Alternatively you'll need the ORBs.

Coastal Command Losses, Vol I 1939-1941, by Ross McNeill, contains PDU, PRU, 1 PRU losses until the end of 1941.

As of 05May43 Mustang I Sqns were still part Army Co-Operation Command which was disbanded 31May43. Its constituent Sqns were then shared out amongst Fighter Command and the new TAF.
