Hauptmann Rudolf Mohrmann

For my I./KG66 unit history I'm looking for any info on Hauptmann Rudolf Mohrmann, such as military career, photos, logs or adresses of relatives.

My understanding so far is that he originally came from one of the previous Luftwaffe Pathfinder units (KGr100? 15./KG6?) and because of this experience was used to reinforce the new I./KG66.

Questions I have so far:
  • Does anybody know what his exact position in I./KG66 was?
  • Was he indeed killed later in the war when trying to become a pilot (I understand he originally was a Beobachter), as one rumour has it?
Thanks in advance,

Marcel

Re: Hauptmann Rudolf Mohrmann

This is all we have on this guy:

MOHRMANN, Rudolf. 01.01.43 promo to Hptm. † 17.08.44.

He seems to be obscure.

Sorry.

Marcel,

There's an entry for Hptm Rudolf (Hans Georg) Mohrmann on volksbund.de.

Born 11.5.1916 Göttingen, died/missing 17.5.1944 Plathe "800 m. westl."

Website adds that his body could not be recovered (yet), but they assume that his remains are still at/near Brzeg (between Wroclaw and Opole), Poland.

Marcel,

'Wir flogen gen Westen' in the aircrew lists shows Hpt. Mohrmann FF + Staka. 15/KG6. He is not mentioned in the name index and the list of St.Kap. for 15/KG6 only shows Oblt von Manowarda 29-10-42 to 18-12-42. Perhaps Mohrmann is covered in the 2nd vol. which I do not have,

Thanks Doug!

Thanks Doug,

Best regards,

Re: Hauptmann Rudolf Mohrmann

Brian,

Thanks for the hint. I have both KG6 volumes by Jan Horn and the second volume only mentions that Mohrmann and others were sent to 15./KG6 in September 1942 because of their X- or Y-Verfahren experience. It is not clear if he means that Mohrmann went as far back regarding pathfinding as KGr100 (X) or KG26 (Y) in 1940/1941. (There also was a Lehr- und Erprobungskommando 17 in between.)

All the best,

Marcel

Thanks Leendert,

Looking at name and age, he could well be "my" Hauptmann. Only thing is the difference in dates of death: 17 May 1944 versus 17 August 1944....

I must say that the fact that he died in Poland is intriguing, I wonder what became of him after he left I./KG66... Maybe he indeed made it into a fighter or Schlachtflieger unit?

Regards,

Marcel
