Tracing family details

I am trying to find information about my wife's father, who died some years ago. He was a POW, initially in the USA and then brought over to the UK in Jan 1946. I wrote to the Red Cross and received his capture card and personal particulars that they had on file and these showed him to be in the Luftwaffe, and his unit to be 5 F.I.D., 15 Rgt, 1 Btl, 1 Kp. He was captured in Luxemburg on 31.01.1945. I think this may be a flak division, but am not sure and would welcome any help in identifying what this unit was, what it did and where it operated. Hope someone can help.

Thanks

Craig

It looks as if his unit was 5. FJD = 5. Fallschirmjäger Division, i.e. 5th Paratroop Division, which did include a 15. Regiment and was in the right area at the right time.

Have a look here or here for more information.

Thanks Nick, thats a great help. I have just looked at the copy of his original capture card and you are correct, it is indeed a J, and the ICRC have transcribed this into an I when they typed up the information.
