Bf 109 Werknr 5725

Dear all,

I'm looking for more info about Bf 109 Wnr 5725. This machine has been photographed with one Abschuss as tail marking.

Hope someone has more info on file such as unit, or perhaps even the pilot who achieved this victory.

Thanks in advance,
Hans Nauta

Hello Hans,

5725 was a F-1 who made an emergency landing on 4.july 41 in Russia, a "written-off" with I.JG3, as your interest is centered on the Western activities, JG3 is a pretty bad owner, at my opinion it didn't flew the F in the west , he transfered to "F" in Germany nd then flew to Russia, 5726 was owned at the same date by III.JG2

Hi, Remi.

What is your source for the loss of 5725? The only one I have for this date and unit is (although as you see I have my doubt on the WNr):

http://www.ahs.no/ref_db/lw_loss_pub...?lossid=132822

Also, the notion that Bf 109F's were not used by the I./JG 3 in the west seem to be wrong. Please check your references for the loss of WNr 5727.

To Hans - another possibility also exist - if you believe your aircraft were used in the west - namely that the aircraft belonged to a training unit at the time it was photographed. Wnr 5720 and 5724 were used by JGr Ost, while WNr 5728 were at JGr Süd.

I have not finished entering all the losses for the training units, will notify you if 'your' aircraft turn up.

Andreas B

Hi,

I have the same loss for WNr.5725 as Remi
Bf 109F-1 WNr.5725 06.07.41 I./JG3 N.N., Spritmangel - Notlandung, Luzk-Nord - 75%

The date is according Prien's JFV edition.

For the other mentioned WNrs I have the following
Bf 109F-1 WNr.5726 08.07.41 8./JG2 Uffz. Karl Kilian (†), unbekannte Ursache - Absturz, bei Hesmond (nahe Montreuil) - 100%
Bf 109F-1 WNr.5727 16.05.41 2./JG3 Lt. Erich Buchholz (verl.), Absturz nach Durchstarten, St.Pol-Brias - 95%

@ Andreas
The WNr.9329 from the loss in your database must be wrong. It is not in the known range of Bf 109Fs. Also the WNr.9529 from Prien's JFV (loss of Fw. Wick) is not in the known range, but very close to the Arado produced F-2 block. Although I have also registered losess for WNrs 9507, 9514, 9516, 9519 & 9521 - so maybe the Arado block didn't start at 9535 ?!

Hi, Tomislav

With regards to 9329 I agree with you, I believe it is 9529, and that the range that are given starting at 9535 is just wrong (it is really hard to read if the WNr in the report is 9329 or 9529, and in both cases it is out of the 'published' ranges we know. I think the answer is that the Arado range probably started at 9501 or 9500.

I foun the 5725 also. Reason I didn't in the first place is that I had left the date filter on... and that Remi wrote 4. July 1941 and not 6. July 1941...

This is what I have on it:

http://www.ahs.no/ref_db/lw_loss_pub...?lossid=132823

I would also guess that since one of aircraft in this range was with I./JG 3 in the west this one also could have been before transferring east.

Andreas B

Re: Bf 109 Werknr 5725

My apologies for the JG3, maybe just the II.JG3...

Nd for the 4. I confirm that is was the 6. , I could also confirm that Landing in Luzk/Luck is pretty dangerous
