Bf 110 M8+ZE (JG 5) photo of wreck on net

Hello!

Just noticed this at the Russian vif- aviation history forum ( http://vif2ne.ru/nvi/forum/0/co/127258.htm ).

Modern colour (digi?)photo of the wreck of Bf 110 M8+ZE in woods. Though not much colour left on the hulk (the images downloads separately and may be slow).
http://vif2ne.ru/nvi/forum/files/Zaika/(081104173119)_2222.bmp

The original Russian discussion thread (to which the vif-thread refers) says the Messerschmitt was shot down by 147 IAP in March 11th, 1942 (and so says the vif-forum thread now). Bf 110 unit given is 6.(Z)/JG 5.

This is just notification without other purposes. Perhaps someone is interested.

Cheers,
Kari

Thanks for the link, kari. Very interesting.

I believe this one was bought by someone in the UK (not surprisingly) and there has been an artuicle on it in Jet & Prop some time ago.

Hi.

I believe this to be WNr 4502, piloted by Gross and shot down by fighters near Murmaschi. Crash location in the German loss report given as south west of the 'Urd-Ozerosee' and (Murmaschi) respectively (the latter indicating that the aircraft was on a mission to Murmaschi). Interestingly, I believe the word Ozero means see in russian...

Also of interest is that the loss record as noted by the GenQu 6 Abt states 6.(Z)/JG 5 as the unit, while the NVM filed by Strümpell says 10.(Z)/JG 5... the explanation being that the unit had changed designation between the loss on March 11th (and reported to the GenQU 6 Abt before March 14th when it appears in the lists) and the report being filed by Strümpell on April 10th.

Andreas B

Andreas,

Ozero means "lake".

Andreas

6./JG5 is correct. (Existed for 6 weeks). W.Nr4501 was also part of this unit.

It was not restored - remains in pieces in Berlin. Parts were used to rebuild Bf109 F-2 W.Nr5052 LN+NR.

Bf110 W.Nr4502 M8+ZE were the previous codes of Stab ZG76

Fuselage built on C model, W.Nr3084.

Of course Schaske flew M8+YE

Air combat with MiG's. One other Bf110 was damaged 90% from memory and crash landed at airfield.

Bullet hit the armoured windscreen.

Had 4 victories on the fin - 1 RAF and 3 Russia.

All this from memory - wrote about her in 1992.

regards

Mark
