II.JG52 1.Sept.40

In 1986 has been found near Coquelles the remains of an Ge Egon Gläser nd possibly his plane seems he crashed b. Routine flight on 1. sept.1940
Unit given II.JG52, I couldn't find anything about this man, who is more clever in this matter ???

I have him as Gefr Egon Glaser of 3/JG 52, Bf 109 E-3, W.Nr 1510, lost on a training flight I believe. The wreckage of this aircraft was recovered at Coquelles a few years ago. Not sure if this helps? Doubtless others will be able to add more.

Hi,

he crashed on 01.09.40 and there is a photo of this crash on page 74 of B.Barbas "Die Geschichte der I./JG52".

The loss list in Niko Fast's "Das Jagdgeschwader 52, Band IV" provides the same details as supplied by Andy, except that the last name is spelled "Gleser." (Apparently not a typo because it's listed that way on two different pages.)

He is listed by the VDK as "Gleser" buried at Bourdon, Block 11, Row 10, Grave 359.

Remains of Glaser and his Me109 has been found in 1986, under activity of the association " Les Amis du Vieux Calais", into what was, during the war, a very marshy area.
So in 1940, It was very difficult for germans to recover the wreck.
More, they flooded the area to prevent paratroop landings. They certainly "forgot" the wreck, having other things to do...
Since this area has drained and in 1986, Patrick Hembert and the association "Les Amis du Vieux Calais", working for Calais War museum, dug up the site.
Many personal items have been found and also the werk number plate of the me109. They allowed the identification.
They were displayed into the collects of "Calais War Museum", but I dont know if there are still there.
