Re: P-47 42-28543
I believe you ment 42-23543, 42-28543 was a P-38.
Edit: Kind of strange, I did a search on Footnote for 42-28543 and came up with MACR 6133 for a P-38J, 15th AF, 1st FG, 94th FS, June 15, 1944. A search for 42-23543 pulls up your P-47. I have copies of the MACR. Regards, Mike |

Re: P-47 42-28543
Mike, Alain,
According Joe Baugher's serial website, then 42-28453 was a P-47D after all, while 42-23543 was a C-47A. Latter one served as FD859 in the RAF and was lost on 13 May 1944. Nimh.nl gives North Sea as place of crash for Capt. Fling's P-47. Regards, Leendert |
Re: P-47 42-28543
I agree that it is a mistake, 42-28543,
Regards, Mike |
Re: P-47 42-28543
42-28543 was indeed a P-47D. It was assigned to Capt. Gordon S. Stevens of the 63rd Sqd. of the 56th FG coded UN-V (bar) & nicknamed "Pat". Capt. Fling did not have an assiged P-47, so after he was lost on 9-SEP-1944, Capt. Stevens was assigned another P-47D #44-19730. He was shot down and KIA in this plane on 18-SEP-1944. Go to this link to see more info on and photos of Capt. Stevens and his P-47Ds (scroll almost to the bottom of the page). http://www.littlefriends.co.uk/gallery.php?Group=56
