FW 200, lost 23 July 1941.
Hallo all,
Can anyone please help me with the remaining names and crew positions of the crew of FW 200C-3, 'F8+BB', W.Nr. 0069 lost on 23 July 1941 ? I only have the names of Oblt. Heinrich Bleichert (F.), POW and W.D. Insp. August Dollinger (Met.), KIA. Regards, Martin Gleeson. |

This is what I have noted:- Ff Ofw. Heinrich Bleikert POW 2Ff Ofw. Josef Raczak " Bf Fw. Karl Ubelhofer " Bf Gef. Josef Weid " Bm Ofw. Heinrich Grube " Bs Ogef. Anton Rogenhofer " Reg Rat. August Dollinger + While about to attack a convoy was engaged by a Hudson of 233Sqd. and forced to ditch, Pows picked up by HMS Begonia. The Reg Rat has been shot in the head during the Hudson's attck. |

It was Bleichert, übelhofer, Weid-all the others are as per. Shot down By Plt Off Down/Plt Off Corken in Hudson AM536/J of 233 Sqn off Achil Head (54.00N, 13.27W) at 0815 hrs after attacking convoy OG69; this is the well known photo of a FW 200 ditched in the sea I believe

Many thanks for the clarifications. Using Google Earth that places the crash location approximately 130 miles West of Achill Head, County Mayo. A series of 4 photos concerning this loss appear in Volume 1 of the Spanish FW 200 softback publications by Juan Carlos Salgado. I should have asked in my first post if this Condor was from the Stab./I Gruppe, as per the coding 'F8+BB' ? Can this be confirmed ? Regards and thanks again. Martin. |
