Serial for FN-E / 331 Sqn fall 1944
I am recording the operational sorties of Danish 331 S pilot Palle Thomsen during the fall of 1944. The ORB does not list the aircraft serials. Hence I am trying to combine several sources to do this.
http://www.danishww2pilots.dk/sorties.php?person=92 Right now I am looking for the serial for FN-E during the period 26.08.44 to 06.12.44. On 03.08.44 Palle Thomsen flies PL228 (FN-E), but this aircraft is damaged on 08.08. PL187 arrives af 331 Sqn on 03.08.44 according to some (Norwegian) sources; it is damaged landing on 06.09.44. Could be a candidate for FN-E during the month of August and early September. It is transferred to 332 Sqn in early October. I have no candidates for FN-E for the October, November and December sorties. Anyone ? Thanks in advance. Mikkel Plannthin |

Re: Serial for FN-E / 331 Sqn fall 1944
Mike,
Thanks. I have been through the list myself. While it will bring me closer to FM-E, I will not be able to pinpoint FN-E, only a large number of Spits that was at the Sqn at this point. Mikkel |
Re: Serial for FN-E / 331 Sqn fall 1944
Hello Mikkel
Don't know if this will help I have 2 aircraft on my records that were used by 127 Sqn before being transfered to 331 Sqn. NH379 was transfered from 127 Sqn to 331 Sqn on 26/8/44. At this time it carried the code 9N U. SM139 was transfered from 127 Sqn to 331 Sqn on 30/11/44. At this time it carried the code 9N Y. This is probobly irrelevent as the codes would have beed changed. Andy |

Andy
Not always the case found when researching Spitfire IX BR601 and was transferred from one unit to another. Cannot remember which too squadrons but it was a similar situation. The Spitfires were left at the airfield as the previous squadron was rotated north/south and re-equipped. Looking at BR601 (and others) the individual letter was retained and new squadron letters applied. I hasten to add, this occurred only once during its four squadron moves so was not common. regards MS |
