Heinkel He 162 at Garber Restoration Facility

Hi folks!

I've tried to find some good pictures of the He 162 White 23 that is stored at Garber Restoration Facility but most just show the front. Does anybody have pictures showing the rest of the fuselage?

Cheers, Simon

I will try and get you some. I was just over there a few months ago but didn't take any photographs. As I noted before, when it was stored many years ago and would not fit in a storage area, the outer meter or so of the main wing was sawed off, laying against the aircraft.

The explanation I received in the Mid-80's was that when this aircraft arrived at Wright Field, the wings were sawn off then re-attached with hinges so it could be put on a trailer and transported for purposes of static display at various airshows and exhibits (the wings were folded up when the trailer was to be moved one local roads.)
I never got a decent picture of the rear, it was always packed in very tight with the other aircraft back then......

Hi,

I was going through some childhood pictures last week and was surprised to see the HE-162 in the background of a picture taken at Silver Hill in the late 70's. It is not a great shot, but if you PM me I will be more than willing to send it to you.

Hi folks!

Thank you for your answers! I just need pictures of the rear fuselage. It seems the plane has mostly it's original colours. I would like to know if on the rear fuselage other colours were used than RLM 82/76. On BW photographs it seems that parts of the fuselage were painted in RLM 81.

Cheers, Simon

Hi Simon,
I have about 10 color photos of the He 162 at Garber including several of the starboard side of the fuselage. Let me know if they are of interest.
Cheers, Jerry
