Re: Photos 1-4
Ed,
Another fine selection. Many thanks - and a Happy New Year. Did the RAF actually loose that many Battles or did a lot of german ground troops have cameras? |
Re: Photos 1-4
Good point Andy, seems that the Battle was the favourite of the germans, based on pictures seen on e-bay, the production was something around 77.542 pieces all lost during the first days of may 1940, as not so many crews were lost seems that majority was pilotless crafts, just to fool the germans nd let them out of stock of camera-films
I promised not to make anymore post of that sort in 2009 Remi |
Re: Photos 1-4
Hi, guys and a happy new year to all.
I think that a collection of the Fairey Battle photographs seen on eBay would probably document most of these aircraft. I have stopped wondering just how many photographs were taken of these aircraft... I guess every german soldier in France wanted to send home a photograph showing the sad remains of the RAF expeditionary force Regards, Andreas B |

You're welcome, Andy. And a Happy New Year to you and everyone else. Yes, it seems the Battles were a favorite subject and I'm convinced that most soldiers in the German Army had cameras. There is also some evidence that multiple copies of some photos were made at the time for comrades who wanted them.
Regards, Ed |
Re: Photos 1-4
Hi to all,
somewhere I heard that every fifth german soldier had Leica photoapparat. So it is not so strange why so much photos appeared now on e-bay. kind regards Newcomer |
