Stirling shot down 28/1/41
Hi guys
I have a note that a Stirling of 15 Squadron was shot down by friendly fire near Whitby on 28 January 1941. Nothing in Bill Chorley's BC Losses. A trip to National Archives is called for, but does anyone have any information? Cheers Brian |
Re: Stirling shot down 28/1/41
Brian,
From memory, away from my study, I think the first Short Stirling bomber did not arrive on No.15 via No.7 Squadron until March /April 1941. I think the squadron was still operational on the old Wimpy. Regards Steve |
Re: Stirling shot down 28/1/42
Hi Steve (and others)
I should have checked the information I received! The date was 28 January 1942 and the location Whitley Bay! Apologies Brian |
Re: Stirling shot down 28/1/41
Well Brian
For what it's worth I checked the Air Britain Stirling File for those Stirlings being listed for 15 Sq within the timeframe given, but I cannot find any suitable candidate...:( Then of course IF it was only damaged and could be repaired it will not be listed in this file since only total losses are recorded. I also think that to be listed by Chorley the aeroplane has to contain one or more crewmember either killed, lost or POW. Good luck with your search Cheers Stig |
