Re: British made A/C with the USAAF
The 8th AF used the Spitfire PR. XI for most demanding long range photo-reconnaissance tasks (14th Photo Sqd.). The Eagle squadrons had some Hurricanes but I don't know if they had them under 8th AF. In addition there probably were large number of Moths and other British light aircraft in USAF.

Re: British made A/C with the USAAF
I don't believe that the 4th flew any Mk.VIIIs, and the Mk.Vc seems unlikely.
The 31st and 52nd flew Mk.VIIIs and Mk.IXs, but there was no Trop suffix to the designation. There were of course many other types flown in support roles, including Tiger Moth, Oxford, Master, Dominie, and Hurricane. There was also a recce group with the Spitfire Mk.Vb - the 67th? later the PR Mk.XI. The USAAF also flew PR Mosquitoes, initially the F-8 (Mk.IV) but later the Mk.XVI |
Re: British made A/C with the USAAF
There are two books on US Spitfires published by Ventura in NZ some years ago.
http://www.venturapublications.com/s...roducts_id=176 http://www.venturapublications.com/s...roducts_id=177 They'll give you details of Spitfire variants used by all US units that had them. |
