British made A/C with the USAAF

Hello:

I am trying to either confirm the information that I have so far as well as find out what various Mark's for the following aircraft by squadrons were flown. Please advise if I have left off any other Mark's that were flown by them.

4th F.G. (334, 335, 336 F.S.): Spitfire Mk's Vb, Vc, IXc, VIII

31st F.G. (307, 308, 309 F.S.): Spitfire Mks' Vb-Trop, Vc-Trop, VIII-Trop

52nd F.G. (2, 4, 5, F.S.): Spitfire Mks' Vb-Trop, Vc-Trop, VIII-Trop

414, 415, 416, 417 NFS: Beaufighter Mk IV-F, Mosquito Mk XXX, NF-30

Thank you.

Michael

The 8th AF used the Spitfire PR. XI for most demanding long range photo-reconnaissance tasks (14th Photo Sqd.). The Eagle squadrons had some Hurricanes but I don't know if they had them under 8th AF. In addition there probably were large number of Moths and other British light aircraft in USAF.

I don't believe that the 4th flew any Mk.VIIIs, and the Mk.Vc seems unlikely.

The 31st and 52nd flew Mk.VIIIs and Mk.IXs, but there was no Trop suffix to the designation.

There were of course many other types flown in support roles, including Tiger Moth, Oxford, Master, Dominie, and Hurricane.

There was also a recce group with the Spitfire Mk.Vb - the 67th? later the PR Mk.XI.

The USAAF also flew PR Mosquitoes, initially the F-8 (Mk.IV) but later the Mk.XVI

There are two books on US Spitfires published by Ventura in NZ some years ago.
http://www.venturapublications.com/s...roducts_id=176
http://www.venturapublications.com/s...roducts_id=177
They'll give you details of Spitfire variants used by all US units that had them.

Michael ,
The only USAAF Night Fighter Squadron that Transitioned
to Mosquitos was the 416th NFS.
The 414th , 415th and 417th Transitioned to the P - 61.

Many thanks for the information to my question. From this board and some other sources, I was able to find out most of the information that I was looking for.

Thank you again.
