Help needed
 

Morning all,

I am trying to find information on this gent. From the info on the back of an envelope and the letter within it, I think he is Walter Schubert, but not 100% on that. I also have a ring of his which says

1939 - 1940 Stabskompanie - Polen- Westfront - Jagdgruppe Gentzen

Any info anyone can be povide on him and/or his activities during WWII would be appreciated.

Hi

The military postal code used are for the Fliegerhorstbetriebskompanie Z.G.2, and in addition I./ZG 2 were under the command of Johannes Gentzen (also seems to have been called Hannes Gentzen only in some documents) from May 1939 through May 1940.

So I think it is safe to assume that this man was part of the ZG 2 during the early part of the war, most probably assigned to the I. Gruppe or maybe their ground support.

Our officer career notes have nothing on this guy, so he apparently did not hold a staff or command position and/or did not rise to a rank of Hptm. or higher at some point.

Hi Spike

I have a Leutnant Walter Schubert killed flying for 9./ZG 26 on 29th November 1943. He had claimed a B-24 on 17th July 1943 at 1355 hrs.

A long shot, but could be your guy.

I have about a dozen letters belonging to this chap from May '41 to March '42. Obviously written in German, so I can't make out what they say.
