aircraft shot down christmas day 1944

Hi.

I wonder if anyone can help me find more about a twin-engine aircraft shot down on 25th Dec 1944 by Typhoons of 168 Squadron. This was during the Battle of the Bulge and they were based at Eindhoven.

The Squadron record says "armed recce Malmedy area. unidentified twin engine aircraft destroyed in air at F.1717 at 11.00 at 12,000 feet."

Thanks

Motherbird

Any help?

Heinz Strüning
On the night of 24/25 December 1944, Strüning was shot down by a RAF intruder in Bf 110 G-4 (W.Nr. 740 162) “G9+CT”. He baled out but struck the tail unit of the stricken fighter and fell to his death. His body was not found until two months later.

Kind regards

Ross

Struening was lost at night not 1100 hrs; his nemesis is well known (but not to hand where I am)
