Walter Oesau

I am writing the story of my native village BEHO south west of St-Vith. Walter Oesau on 11 may 1944 was shot down in the fields north east of the village. Are there German records, files or AAR about this precise day?
Many thanks'

Hello Neyrob,

I can provide you with some info's concerning Walter Oesau's crash near "Etang des Concessions" in Beho. I have met Mr Timmermans, a first-eye witness of the combat. Moreover I have read an article about Oberst Oesau last flight published in Aéro-journal some years ago. However I need some time to recover them. Oesau flew on the 11th May 44 with Bf 109G-6/AS WNr. 20601 green 13. He is said to have try to belly-land his aircraft but cartwheeled in that action.

Best regards.

Re: Walter Oesau

Hello Neyrob,

I met l'abbé Timmermans in june 1999 when I investigated Walter Oesau crash site. It was a great day. He told us he watched the combat right over his head, hidden in a dog kennel. His father took Oesau's body on a carriage to lay him in the "Concession" chapel.
Indeed I am Belgian (I am 29) but my name is from Italian origin... As a passion (for more than 15 years), I research the location and identification of WW2 aircraft wreckage and the history of their airmen
Hope to help you if you need

Best regards

Hi Gentlemen,

I think some time ago there was a posting about where Oesau was buried, but I'm not sure it was answered then.

Do any of you know where he was buried?

Thank you,

David.

Oesau is buried in the Friedhof in Meldorf. I have pictures of his last trip "home" but as I do not have a source (gleaned them off of the internet) I cannot post them here I think.

Re: Walter Oesau

Cori,

Many thanks. I have some photographs of his funeral procession taken from the collection of Wolfgang Falck, who attended the funeral.
Do you have the street name for the cemetery (Friedhof) as I may get an opportunity to visit there some time this year.

Thank you and all the best, David.
