86th Fighter-Bomber Group
According to most books, A-36As of 527th FBS wore a white diagonal strip on the fin and rudder as a squadron identification marking.
What were the tactical codes of the two other squadrons? Thanks in advance. Chris |

Mike,
I did but to no avail. Frankly, I do not intend to buy a book only for these details. Thanks anyway. Chris |
Re: 86th Fighter-Bomber Group
Well Chris perhaps it's lucky I did buy it then....
In the book "86th Fighter Group in WWII" by Steve Luce (ISBN 0-9721060-8-1) the author states that the sqns were issued with code letters: 525FS 'V'; 526FS 'L' and 527FS 'T'. There are only a few photos in the book that show a/c using the sqn code letter most photos show only a single individual code letter. In addition to the diagonal stripe on 527FS, he identifies a white painted rudder trim tab as the 526FS marking. He does not identify a colour marking for 525FS. Steve |
Re: 86th Fighter-Bomber Group
Steve,
Well, I might say I'm also lucky you watched this topic... Thanks. There are so many books I'd like to buy but a life's work wouldn't be enough to afford it! Chris |
