Messerschmitt Bf.109G-4 / Bf.109G-6

Hi,

Can anybody please tell me what the differences are between a Bf.109G-4 and a Bf.109G-6?

Thank you,
Andrew

Re: Messerschmitt Bf.109G-4 / Bf.109G-6

The primary difference was armament. The G-6 series introduced the dual MG 131 guns in the cowling, replacing the MG 17 light machine guns. This was an effort to have heavier fire power for the aircraft.

Visually, the G-6 (and G-5) is distinguished by the large bulges on the upper cowling covering the breeches and ammo feeds of the MG 131.

The G-6 was the most produced 109 variant and the G-6 itself had dozens of variants with different equipment, tails engines, etc.
