ZG 76 - 7 June 1940

Hi,

On 7 June 1940 morning Oberlt Weeber, Lt Jabs and Lt Helmer of II./ZG 76 claimed destroying three French fighters.
I'm interesting in where this combat was.
Is it possible they shot down four Blochs of GC II/10 south of Abbeville?

Regards,

Greg

Hi,

yes they did. They attacked together with 7./JG3, 6./JG53 and 1./JG2 two French units - GCII/10 and GCIII/10:
- MB-152 No.689 from GCII/10 was damaged by Bf110 from II./ZG76 at 05.20 a.m.
- MB-152 No.192 from GCIII/10 was hit by Bf110 from II./ZG76 and Bf109 from 7./JG3 and c/l at 05.25 a.m.
- MB-152 No.141 from GCIII/10 was hit by Bf110 from II./ZG76 and Bf109 from 7./JG3 and c/l at 05.25 a.m.
- MB-152 No.115 from GCII/10 was hit by Bf109s from 6./JG53 and 1./JG2 and c/l at 05.30 a.m.
- MB-152 No.130 s/d by the same units at 05.30 a.m.
- MB-152 No.688 and 687 hit by the same units and c/l both at 05.30 a.m.
Of course this is only my research.

Regards

Robert

Interesting Robert

This differs quite a bit what Peter Cornwell states in his BofF then and now.

Perhaps Peter would care to comment??

Cheers
Stig

The three claims filed by II./ZG76 were timed between 5.20 – 5.40 a.m. (BST).
GC II/10 were engaged by Bf110s as recorded by Dulac (cited in Gillet VCF III p41).

Half an hour later, shortly after 6.00 a.m. (BST), GC II/4 were engaged by a formation of 20-25 Bf109s over Villers-Cotterêts as recorded by Rubin (cited in Gillet VCF III p40).
Claims by 6./JG53 and 1./JG2 were timed 6.05 – 6.10 a.m. (BST) east of Compiègne.

Given the same air space and proximity of timings, a degree of overlap may be argued – even expected, but I viewed these as separate actions. If there is any other evidence that should be considered then I will be pleased to learn of it.

Over to you Robert.

Re: ZG 76 - 7 June 1940

Thanx for your answer, Peter.
I asked about combat ZG 76 with GC II/10 because I was surprise when I read about it in your book. In the Serge Joanne book about Bloch 152 I read GC II/10 was attacked by Me 109 not Me 110. In the memories of Jerzy Radomski of this combat (you can read it in my book 'The Lost Hopes') he wrote they were attacked by Me 109 too.

Best regards,

Greg

More noticeably, Radomski specifies, they were seeing a formation of Me 110s, but only then they were bounced by Me 109s.

Hi Peter,

according to "Les Curtiss H-75" book by Lionel Persyn the GCII/4 was engaged by 5./JG3.

Good night to all!
Could someone help me to match the MB-152 aircraft´s numbers with the pilots involved?
GC II/10 losses ( OC Cdt Ronzet ) - base: Bernay
Cdt Eugeniuz Wyrwicki + KIA
S/Lt Jerzy Poniatowski + KIA
S/Lt Hieronim Dudwal + KIA
GC III/10 losses ( OC Cdt Risacher ) - base: Deauville
Adj-Chef Gaulard ( crash landed ) - WIA?
Sgt-Chef Hiblot ( crash ? ) - WIA?

It seems however, from the information you put down here, that there were more losses amongst the Blochs. But from which Squadron and related to the Bf 110 attack or Bf 109?

Yours
Adriano Baumgartner
( interested on Jabs´s claims )
