Ferry Command Maurauder on 4th october 1943
Dear All,
A Maurauder Mk I was on a delivery flight from Iceland to England on the 4th october 1943. It got off course and made a forced landing in the province of Zeeland (Kamperland, Noord Beveland, SW Netherlands) due to fuel shortage. The Maurauder was slightly damaged and taken to Gilze Rijen airfield. From there it flew to Rechlin Germany. The aircraft dit not have an airframenumber at that moment. There were at least four crewmembers and a civilian on board. One of the names was Clarence C. Wall. I've got no idea if Wall was crew or civilian. Does anyone know the names of the crewmembers and/or an aircraft ID. Thanks in advance, Kind regards, Bas Maathuis |

The plane was B-26B,41-17790,of the 437th Sq, 319th BG.
The crew was commanded by Lt. Clarence Wall, USAAF. The best account is in Hans-Heiri Stapfer's "Stranger in a Strange Land"(Squadron_Signal-1988) |

Google 41-117790 will give you several links on the story, and two pictures (one on the beach and one in German markings).
By the way the day of this loss was 3 october 1942, not 4 October 1943 ? |
