Does anyone have info on the new Me109G-10 found in Steinhuder Lake?

A friend of mine told me he saw a news program (German) that described a new G-10 wreck that was found. It was one of the 109s used by Schulungslehrgang Elbe and shot down by Capt. Brown on April 7, 1945. The German pilot survived.

Does anyone have info or pics?

I did research on the 2TAF for Axrl Urbanke's book on the Fw190 with JG54/JG26

There were literally a dozen crashes/force landings in a number of lakes in April/May 1945. These include Fw190A's, Fw190D's, Seibel 204. (There is probably more in other areas - possibly 2 Bf110's in Bad Zwichenahn also.

All were in Schwerinersee and 1/2 others.

When Fw190D Black 8 was recovered in 1991 so the location was known but the wreck recovered was from another Fw190D lost a week earlier. Also a MiG15/17 nice and silver with a red star was seen on the underwater camera/sonar as well. Still there. Advantage of poor visibility and also no scuba between 1945 and 1990. Has anyone seen anything since?

There is probably a lot still there. Getting it up is the problem.

Mark

Hi Mark

Are you able to identify the pilots who flew the 190s that were recovered from the Schwerinersee or the dates they were lost ("lost a week earlier"), please? 41 Squadron was in action in the area on 1 May 1945, and at least one of the aircraft they shot down went into the lake (Marquardt). I'm not asking in relation to all those in the lake, rather only in regard to those recovered.

Thanks
Steve

Steve

I am sure 41 Sqn would have been on by list.

Do you have a date. If so and I will then look at Axel Urbanke's book.

Mark
